Application help

Everything you need to apply, step by step

Applying for funding shouldn't feel like another migraine trigger. This page explains who can apply, the documents we'll ask for, and how to give the trustees the best picture of what you need. Take it at your own pace.

How to apply

Six steps from start to decision

  1. Check you can apply

Use the quick check above and read our requirements and what we fund. If we're not the right organisation for you, our other help and support page may help.

  2. Gather your documents

Use the checklist below. Clear photos from your phone are fine. Asking your GP or specialist for a letter can take a couple of weeks, so start early.

  3. Create your account

Sign up with your email address and add your personal details once. Your account keeps everything safe and private.

  4. Fill in the form, a section at a time

The form has six parts: your migraine, what you need, the difference it will make, your finances, your documents, and a final check. Your answers save as you go, so you can stop on a bad day and come back later.

  5. Submit between the 1st and 14th

You can start any time, but you can only submit while a round is open. Once you submit, you get a reference number and can't change your answers.

  6. Hear our decision

Our trustees review every application and decide together at their monthly meeting. We'll email you with the outcome and, if you're funded, explain what happens next. We usually pay the provider or supplier directly.

Documents we'll ask for

Tick each one off as you get it ready. Your ticks are only remembered in this browser, on this device.

Questions people ask

I don't know which type of migraine I have. Can I still apply?

Yes. Choose "Migraine, type not yet known" in the form. What matters most is how migraine affects your life and work, and that a doctor is treating you.

Do I need a registered disability?

No. You don't need a registered disability or to be receiving disability benefits.

Can I apply for something I've already paid for?

No, we can't refund costs you've already paid. Please apply before you book or buy.

Can someone help me fill in the form?

Yes. A friend, family member or support worker can help, as long as the answers are yours. You can also make the text bigger using the text size buttons at the top of every page.

What if I'm having a migraine when the round is open?

Start your application early and save it as you go. You can submit any time from the 1st to the 14th, so a bad day or two won't stop you applying.

How much can I ask for?

There's no fixed limit. Ask for what you need and include a quote. The trustees decide how to share the money raised that month, and may offer part of the cost.

Will you pay me or the provider?

We usually pay the clinic, practitioner or supplier directly. We may ask afterwards how the funding has helped.

What if I'm not successful?

You can apply again in a later round, especially if your situation changes. Our other help and support page lists organisations that may also help.
